The program will meet Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with optional late pick-up until 4:00 p.m.The STARTALK Student Summer Program, offered by the School of Curriculum and Teaching, is a three-week online language immersion program designed for secondary/early college heritage language learners who wish to gain higher levels of language and intercultural proficiency through the study of Hindi/ Urdu in real world contexts and in contemporary learning environments.STARTALK is a language education program at the University of Maryland, created under the National Security Language Initiative, a federal program which seeks to expand the teaching of strategically important languages in the United States. Languages taught under the STARTALK program include Arabic, Chinese, Dari, Hindi, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.

PROGRAM COST. The entire program is sponsored by the NSA STARTALK grant, so it is free for students. This includes the residential summer camp lodging and meals. For non-local participants, airfare may be covered as well. All proficiency testing fees and posting credits fees will also be covered if done before the end of the program.
