Best tool I have found to remove these seals is a cotter pin puller. Most all 4L60E transmissions have a slightly deeper pan than the 700r4 and take a different seal. If you use the wrong filter, i.e.: long filter in shallow pan can be crushed causing air to suck around the tube and burn clutches/band, short filter in deep pan may fall loose ...the 4l60e is fully controlled by the ECM which needs the proper inputs from the various sensors. Engine load is calculated from the inputs of tps, air flow, temp..... Remove a sensor and problems will arise as airworld points out. a 1999 unit will have the PWM lock up strategy programming.
