Jan 26, 2020 · Boley: The largest of the 50 or so All-Black towns was Boley. It was founded in 1903, and by 1911, had a population of over four thousand people. That population has now dwindled to a little over 1,000. This rural town had many businesses and even two colleges. After Oklahoma’s statehood in 1907, the citizens of Boley, like all Blacks in Oklahoma, struggled for their civil rights. “Although the day to day effects of segregation were muted in Boley, most people in the town were disfranchised in 1910 when the grandfather clause became law,” according to Blackpast.org.
