This report describes the results of a survey-based Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance project exploring the characteristics and outcomes of the Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (DCLS) program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. The doctorate in clinical laboratory science (DCLS) at KU Medical Center is the third program of its kind in the United States. The DCLS is an advanced-practice degree for actively practicing American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)-certified medical laboratory scientists. Since the 1930s, the laboratory sciences program has been a pioneering spirit in the field. In 2004, KU's molecular biology concentration was one of the first two programs in the nation to receive accreditation from NAACLS.
