Green kimberlite

Also known as Diamond Host Rock and Diamond-Bearing Rock, Kimberlite may show blue, green, black, or gray hues. Kimberlites come from the depths of Earth’s mantle and form from small pockets of melting, capturing Diamonds under high-pressure conditions.

Sep 15, 2023 · Kimberlite that hasn’t been eroded, decomposed, or oxidized is commonly called “blue ground” because of its slate blue, purple, dark blue-green, greenish, brown, or dark gray to black color. “Yellow ground” kimberlite has been weathered away and appears more yellow than blue, purple, brown, or green.

Recently, a kimberlite pipe, here named the Lake Ellen kimber lite, has been found in Iron County, Michigan. That find sug gests the possibility that drift diamonds in Wisconsin have come from a more local source--kimberlites in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. The Lake Ellen kimberlite is very poorly exposed, but aKimberlite magmas tend to be volatile, erupting at speeds of more than 100 feet per second (30 meters per second) and pulling diamonds from the surrounding rocks …78' - Same kimberlite appearance of carbonate stringers throughout core until end of hole. Jun 15, 2011 · A green kimberlite matrix occurs between larger clasts and consists of crystal fragments (mainly olivine with, minor, ca. 2% phlogopite and ilmenite) and basalt fragments set in a fine green base. Irregular patches of mud (ca. 2–10 cm) disrupt the kimberlite matrix (Fig. 8 ).
