Apr 6, 2010 · Here are the results of my reloading efforts so far. Using the Hornady 120gr SP bullet with Fiocchi brass necked down to 7mm-08. I started out with 36.8gr of H4895 and worked my way up half a grain at a time to 40.8gr. Accuracy was dismal the whole way up. Over the the years, Rememington chambered several rifles in “7mm-08” . This is a .308 case necked down to take a 7mm bullet. Velocity with 46grs and a 140 Nosler BT is 2600fps over my chronograph. 47grs and a 139gr Hornady flatbase is 2700. Accuracy is around an inch or slightly over at 100 yards. That is plenty of speed and energy for deer at any distance. It’s also a comparatively light-kicking round. The loads I pulled out of manuals 30 years ago are gone; the most current manuals tell me that the 7×57 Mauser now lags about 200 fps behind the 7mm-08 Rem. This is based on pressures now considered safe in older actions, not on case capacity, and not on working pressure in modern actions.
