National Audubon began protecting the wading birds nesting within Corkscrew Swamp in 1905. During the 1940s and '50s, cypress forests in Florida were being leveled for their timber. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary offers an Introductory Guided Boardwalk Tour for visitors on Sundays during the months of December - March, and sometimes other days. Ask at the front desk when you arrive to see if a tour will be offered the day you are there. The tours on Sundays are planned to begin at 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, and 11:30 a.m..
