Fix the ES if its broken. I was completely anti ES. My wife bought the Recon ES and at first I was like this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen! Then I fell in love with it and went out and bought a Rancher 420ES. I love it! I feel like its having the ease of an Auto 4 wheeler but with the reliability and toughness of a foot shift.Apr 14, 2012 · The difference is ES is a manual shift, tranny like your foot shifter only its shifted with an electric motor instead of your foot. I bought this 2008 rancher last year with only about 300 miles in it. It never shifted right. I replaced the angle sensor and battery, but didn't help. I cleaned the shifter motor brushes as well. I think I finally found the problem- there is play on the spline of the shift shaft.The Recon is a GREAT trail bike and will do some chores, but seems to lack some power when ya really put the heat to it. The Rancher has more power and will easily handle the chores you have listed. As well, the 2wd will have more power over the 4wd due to it not turning the front drive shaft all the time.
